Featured vendor: Roseroot Herbes

Is everyone surviving cold season? Now is the time of year that we all need to take some extra care with our health. Besides keeping hydrated, exercising, and eating a nutrient-rich diet, we can support our immune and endocrine systems with some local botanical creations from Roseroot Herbes. We have been enjoying some of their hand-crafted products for a few months now, and are excited about the new goodies we've just added to the collection!

Roseroot Herbes is a community-supported apothecary lead by three women in Olympia. They have knowledge and experience in botanical medicine, botany, plant taxonomy, ethnobotany, horticulture, farming, and landscaping (source). You can learn more about Roseroot Herbes, their products, and the herbalists over at their beautiful website here!

So what treats do we have at Little General?

Elixirs/Tonics:

Sleep Elixir - promotes calm and restful sleep
Northwest Immune Tonic* - a blend of regional herbs to ease seasonal transitions and support the immune system
Northwest Fire Tonic* - a spicy sipping vinegar for immune and digestive support (see recipe below!!)

Bitters:

Chamomilla Rum, Violette, and Rosmarina - these bitters are mainly for medicinal benefits and can be used as a digestive aid or apertif. They taste lovely in sparkling water before or after a meal.

Vinegars:

Lavender Thimbleberry & Tarragon Chive* - these 1 oz. vinegars come as a cute little pair and are perfect for dressing greens, potatoes, or just about anything else!

Herb blends:

Herbes Cascadia - a Northwest version of Herbes de Provence, used to season (or perfectly paired in a homemade vinaigrette with the RH vinegars and some olive oil)

Honeys:

Lung and Throat Honey - perfect for soothing and healing a raw winter throat - best paired in the recipe below!

Body products:

Everyday Salve, Muscle Mend, Doug Fir Rose Lip/Cheek Tint*, Unscented Healing Lip Balm - Remember that what you put on your skin is equally as important as what you eat! The skin is the largest organ we have, and what you put on it is absorbed into your body. These are all healing products that you can feel safe about using freely, as they contain high-quality, local herbs.

*LG favorite :)

Where to begin? Let's start with an immune-boosting recipe created by the masters behind Roseroot Herbes:

FIRE TODDY

1 oz  Roseroot Herbes NW Fire Tonic
8 oz  Hot water
Raw honey**
Meyer lemon
optional: 1.25 oz cognac

Place 2-3 slices of lemon at the bottom of your mug and muddle lightly. Add NW Fire Tonic (+ optional cognac) and top off with hot water. Stir in honey to taste. Garnish with lemon wedge and feel the warmth.

**We love to use Roseroot Herbes Lung + Throat infused honey for added medicinal benefits

This recipe would be a delicious intro into how to use some RH products you might not be familiar with - and if you've got a cold, we at LG really love a hot toddy :)

We hope to see you in the shop soon to check out all these beautiful handcrafted goodies, feel free to ask us for more information about Roseroot Herbes and to look at their full menu of products. See you soon!

XO!

Featured Vendor: Cobb's Treats

If you've never tried Cobb's salted dark chocolate peanut butter cup, you're missing out! I'll never eat a Reese's PB cup again after trying the Cobb's version. Not only does this guilt-free treat taste incredible, it also always leaves me satisfied. Often when I have a craving for sweets, eating chocolate can just intensify my craving and leave me seeking out more sugar. With Cobb's PB cups I savor every bite and then feel like I can happily move on with my day. This is probably due to the fact that they use ingredients that are as organic, local, and raw as possible. No nasty additives or hidden ingredients, just goodness from this local Olympia company.

Now's your chance to try them (or stock up, if you're already a convert!) at a great deal - 2 for $4.50 or 1 for $2.50. Just in time for Valentine's Day :)

Check out the Cobb's website for more information: http://www.cobbstreats.com/

Peanut butter cup ingredients : cocoa beans*, peanuts*, raw honey, raw coconut*, raw coconut oil*, cinnamon*, Himalayan salt, vanilla bean*
*certified organic
